Løkken: Beach Huts, Kløverstier and Coastal Culture
Løkken combines North Sea air, signposted trails and an unusually vivid coastal history. In summer, around 500 privately owned white beach huts stand on the beach, giving the town the nickname “the white city”. There is also a 200-metre-long pier with views of the North Sea and the sunset, as well as several ways to discover the character of the town on foot, in museums or through activities with children.
Beach, pier and trails for different types of holiday days
If you would like to include a short route in your travel plans, you can choose the green Kløversti. It starts and ends at Løkken Torv and is 2.6 kilometres long. The black Kløversti, on the other hand, offers a longer route: the 11-kilometre trail leads from Løkken town centre to Nr. Lyngby and follows the beach on the outward journey. Bunkers from the Second World War are also visible on the beach along this trail.
The red Kløversti leads through Vendsyssel Plantage and past a bunker built during the Second World War. The Nordsøstien also passes through Løkken. At De Maritime Huse, there is a rest area along this trail from which you can experience the dune landscape, beach and sea. The Løkken tourist office provides maps for the local Kløversti hiking trails.
Driving is permitted on Løkken South Beach, which is also designated as a winter bathing beach. On the car-free section of Løkken beach, a sand competition for children is held as a cherished local tradition. North of the town, there is also a large coastal cliff for paragliding, stretching approximately 10 kilometres to the north.
Museums and Visible History
The Løkken Museum is housed in Johanne Grønbechs Hus, a skipper’s house built around 1860. It focuses on the town’s commerce, history, crafts and tourism. The garden contains an old bathhouse with an exhibition about bathing culture in Løkken. The old rescue station, Løkken Redningshus, houses the Løkken Kystfiskerimuseum, which explores rescue services and fishing.
These places make Løkken’s development understandable from different perspectives: the skipper’s house represents urban life, the bathhouse represents bathing culture, and the rescue station represents the connection between the coast, rescue services and fishing. In addition, the Løkken Kunststi presents more than 40 works along a 6-kilometre art trail, including murals and sculptures. Activities for children are also part of this art trail.
Active and Relaxed Options with Children
The Løkken Bunkersti is a family-friendly hiking trail through wooded areas and the town of Løkken, where you can experience bunkers. For those interested in water sports, North Shore Surf School offers surf lessons for individuals, families and friends at Løkken Læmole. If you are looking for a completely different kind of active day, Action House offers indoor go-karting, bowling, a play area and virtual reality activities.
The Løkken Maritime Oase is available free of charge to people of all ages throughout the year. At De Maritime Huse at Løkken Moleleje, there is also a public café, changing rooms, showers, toilets, and seating and picnic facilities for beach users and visitors. Løkken Idrætscenter has a large modern swimming pool for exercise and swim training, as well as a spa pool and sauna.
Local Flavours and Maritime Traditions
At Løkken Bryghus, beer is brewed according to traditional craft methods. The brewery offers tours and beer tastings; at Bryggerstuen, holiday guests can sample and enjoy various types of beer. In Løkken, fish are still landed from the open beach and sold directly at the boat. At Bolcheriet, colourful sweets are made with craftsmanship, fragrance and a nostalgic character.
When looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home in Løkken, you can therefore first decide what you want to focus on during your holiday: short routes and art, longer stretches of beach, coastal history, surf lessons or shared family activities. This allows you to choose your accommodation based on the experiences that interest you most during your holiday.
