Culture and History

The Topolná Museum of Folk Architecture preserves buildings that represent the typical Pomeranian house form made of unfired bricks. Building No. 93, which is open to the public, presents the living conditions and furnishings of a farmstead from the end of the 19th century. The museum also includes exhibitions on washing and fishing, a historic smithy, and an orchard with a fruit-drying room and an apiary.

The underground area of the Basilica of the Assumption of Our Lady and Saints Cyril and Methodius in Velehrad can be visited in the lapidarium, which displays original portals and Romanesque-Gothic archaeological finds. Buchlovice Chateau is an important Baroque residence surrounded by a Baroque garden.

Nature

Rovnina Lookout Tower has 127 steps; from there, views extend across the Morava Valley, the Chřiby Hills, the White Carpathians, the Hostýn Hills and the Vizovice Hills.

Živá voda Modrá displays aquatic life from the ecosystem of the Morava River, nearby streams and ponds through a glass tunnel. The site represents Moravian habitats, including a spring in the Chřiby Hills, a herb garden and a floodplain forest. Živá voda Modrá also includes a wooden footbridge over an enclosure with aurochs.

Chřiby Nature Park is characterized by beech forests, rock formations, springs, viewpoints and deep valleys.

Wine and Regional Tradition

The Vlčnovské búdy form the largest protected reserve of above-ground wine-making buildings in the Czech Republic. They were used for pressing, tasting and storing wine.

The Museum of Folk Distilleries in Vlčnov documents the household production of slivovitz and fruit spirits on the Moravian-Slovak border.

Paths and Routes

The Great Moravian Pilgrimage Route connects Great Moravian heritage with monuments from later periods. It is a challenging 59-km route from Uherské Hradiště via Cimburk and Buchlovice and back to Uherské Hradiště.

The cycle path along the Baťa Canal has only minor changes in elevation and is described as suitable for families, seniors and inline skaters.

A route through Modrá includes the Archeoskanzen open-air archaeological museum. The Modrá section of the route also includes the Živá voda freshwater exhibition.

The Uherské Hradiště Wine Route is an easy 45-km circular cycling route from Uherské Hradiště through Ostrožská Nová Ves and Vlčnov and back to Uherské Hradiště.
