Kroměříž District: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

In Kroměříž, the ensemble comprises the archbishop's palace, the Podzámecká zahrada and the Květná zahrada. The gardens and the palace in Kroměříž form an early Baroque architectural ensemble; the Pleasure Garden influenced Moravian garden design.

Culture and history

The Muzeum Kroměřížska presents the cultural and historical development of Kroměříž from its origins to the early modern period in an underground exhibition. The first floor of the Šachova synagoga houses the Židé a Morava exhibition on Jewish history in Moravia. The Šachova synagoga in Holešov is the only synagogue of the Polish type preserved in its original form and is described as a unique example worldwide.

The Muzeum v přírodě Rymice combines seven buildings of East Hanakian folk architecture with a fortress and a farmyard. The village buildings document local housing and agriculture over the past two centuries and continue to stand at their original locations.

The Větrný mlýn Velké Těšany is a wooden windmill of the German type and was designated a national cultural monument in 2014. It is divided into the levels podemlýní, mlýnice and zanáška, corresponding to the ground floor, first floor and second floor. The windmill has been open to the public since 1979.

Gardens and nature

The Květná zahrada comprises a central pavilion with a Foucault pendulum, a colonnade, fountains, green mazes, greenhouses and Jahodové kopečky. Its design draws on French, Italian, Dutch and German garden models; Versailles is cited as an inspiration. The Podzámecká zahrada is a 64-hectare English landscape park with rare trees, water channels, ponds, original structures and a small zoo area.

Hostýnské vrchy is a Natura 2000 site of Community importance covering an area of 2,396.5914 hectares. Preserved forests and unregulated streams provide refuges for rare animal and plant species. The extensive forest biotopes in Hostýnské vrchy serve as nesting habitats for birds, including the black woodpecker.

The Chropyňský rybník comprises a pond with floating water chestnut and abundant birdlife.

Walks and excursions

Barbořina has a 265-metre-high summit with views over Kroměříž, the Hornomoravský úval and the Hostýnské vrchy. It also features the approximately one-kilometre-long Naučná stezka veverky Čiperky. Trasa 1: Arcibiskupský zámek a zahrady is 1.5 kilometres long and takes approximately 30 minutes without individual visits to the individual sites.

Kroměříž offers short thematic walks through the town that can be completed without a guide and are designed for a broad range of visitors. In the chateau garden in Holešov, information boards distributed throughout the garden summarize its history.

The Hostýnská vyhlídka excursion route connects Kroměříž, Hulín, Rymice, Holešov, Brusné, Rusava, Svatý Hostýn and Bystřice pod Hostýnem. It can be combined with a train journey back to Kroměříž.

Wine

Kroměříž is associated with a winemaking tradition dating back to the 13th century; wine experiences take place in palace cellars and wine shops.
