The Chomutov region encompasses natural attractions, churches and chapels, chateaux, castles, technical structures and folk architecture. Culture and history

The Skanzen Stará Ves open-air museum provides an insight into historical life in the Ore Mountains, including traditional crafts and horticulture. The grounds are characterised by a working Dutch-style windmill next to a small vineyard. The permanent exhibitions on Ore Mountain crafts include lace-making, beekeeping, flax cultivation and processing, and the manufacture of wooden toys. During the summer season, the open-air museum is open daily; admission is covered with a valid zoo park ticket.

Hasištejn Castle has a restaurant, a lookout tower and cultural events. The Chomutov farmers' market offers handmade ceramics and wooden products.

Landscape and nature

Bezručovo údolí is a 6,500-hectare nature park in the Ore Mountains, ranging from approximately 380 to 850 metres above sea level. Visitors can explore the valley on marked trails on foot or by bicycle. An almost seven-kilometre-long asphalt path also runs through Bezručovo údolí to Třetí mlýn; it was designed for pedestrians, cyclists and inline skaters.

A blue hiking trail through the Údolí Prunéřovského potoka is just under eight kilometres long. The route can be reached by car, bus, a weekend train on the Chomutov–Vejprty line or by bicycle. Kýšovický vodopád is described as the highest waterfall in the Ore Mountains. A yellow-marked hiking trail leads from Chomutov to Hradiště u Černovic.

Novodomské rašeliniště is a protected peat bog reserve, a bird area and a regular breeding site for black grouse. Hradiště u Černovic is a protected natural monument known for Tertiary quartzite with plant fossils. A 240-metre-long rampart of a Bronze Age hillfort has been preserved at Hradiště.

Podkrušnohorský zoopark Chomutov covers 112 hectares and displays around 160 animal species from the Palearctic.

Water and winter

Kamencové jezero covers almost 16 hectares; its alum-rich water is described as unique in the world. The body of water offers beaches, mini golf, rental boats, pedal boats and paddleboards. It is also used for cold-water swimming in a natural bathing environment. The campsite includes cabins as well as pitches for tents or caravans.

Skiareál Pyšná has three slopes, a ski school, a children's ski park, a snow park and a groomed cross-country ski trail.
