Břeclav District: Holiday apartments and holiday homes

Anyone wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Břeclav District can continue searching for accommodation afterwards. In the southernmost part of Moravia, Břeclav District combines floodplain forests, white cliffs, vineyards, fields, historic monuments and folk traditions. The district extends across the Dyje–Svratka Valley, the Central Moravian Carpathians and the Lower Morava Valley; the Pálava Hills form the dominant highland area.

Landscape and nature

The Lednice Ponds form a national nature reserve covering more than 1,000 hectares and used for fish farming. The Nové Mlýny Waterworks comprises 3,232 hectares of water surface below the Pálava Hills. The Lednice Ponds are also among the important breeding grounds for waterfowl in the district.

The Pálava Protected Landscape Area is a biosphere reserve with rare plants and animals. Its distinctive cultural landscape was shaped by the relationship between people and nature.

Culture and history

The Lednice–Valtice Cultural Landscape was created by merging the estates of Lednice and Valtice with the neighbouring Břeclav estate. It includes a historic network of roads and picturesque paths. The landscape is also home to a 60-metre-high minaret offering a viewpoint over the estate. Boat trips in the Lednice–Valtice Landscape can reach the ruins of John’s Castle.

Pohansko is an archaeological reserve and is considered one of the important early medieval Slavic archaeological sites. The fortified settlement there, dating from the 9th century, covered 28 hectares. Pohansko Chateau, built in the Empire style, houses an exhibition on local archaeological research. Dolní Věstonice is associated with the archaeological discovery of the Venus of Věstonice figurine. The historic medieval centre of Mikulov has been designated an urban heritage conservation area since 1952.

Viticulture has a long tradition in the Břeclav region. Folk festivals include “Podluží v písních a tancích” in Tvrdonice and “Kraj beze stínu” in Krumvíř. Costumed feasts are a well-established tradition in Velké Bílovice, Vrbice, Rakvice, Lanžhot and Moravská Nová Ves. The district also preserves its customs through ethnographic ensembles and festivals of folk dance and song.

Cycling and trails

In the Břeclav area and in the Lednice–Valtice Area, there are marked cycling routes leading to tourist attractions. The Břeclav Tourist Information Centre rents bicycles and provides information about the town and the region.

The Břeclav–Pohansko–Lány educational trail is 7 km long and accessible to pedestrians and cyclists. The 2 km-long Entové educational trail leads through floodplain forest to Pohansko Chateau. The 6.5 km-long Lužní-les educational trail runs from Břeclav to Janův hrad near Lednice. The Lednice Ponds educational trail begins at the dam of Mlýnský rybník.
