Prague 7: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Prague lies on both banks of the Vltava River. The city’s development over more than 1,100 years can be traced through the architectural character of its many historical periods and styles. At the same time, the historic centre has preserved its overall layout, urban structure and spatial composition.

Culture and History

Prague Castle was probably founded around 880 by Prince Bořivoj of the Přemyslid dynasty. It consists of a large complex of palaces and ecclesiastical buildings in various architectural styles; the historic buildings of Prague Castle are open to visitors.

Charles Bridge was built between 1357 and 1402 and is decorated with 30 statues of saints. The Historical Building of the National Museum has been a national cultural monument since 1962, while the National Museum building dates from 1891 and was constructed in the Neo-Renaissance style.

The Museum of Decorative Arts in Prague is the largest Czech museum of applied arts and design. Its permanent exhibition presents European applied art from the Middle Ages to the 21st century; the museum also has a publicly accessible recreational garden.

City and Transport

Prague’s public transport network includes trams, buses and the metro. The nostalgic tram line 23 is operated with historic T3 trams; visitors can use it, for example, to travel to Prague Castle.

The “National Museum in your pocket” app guides visitors to selected locations or exhibits and allows them to purchase tickets. The Visitor Centre of the Jewish Museum in Prague sells tickets for tours and attractions in Prague’s Jewish Quarter.

Green Spaces

Prague’s green areas include parks, orchards, gardens, vineyards, riverfront areas and forests. Letná Parks offer opportunities for walks and, especially from the Hanavský Pavilion, views over the city.

Prague Zoo has more than 10 kilometres of walking paths. At the children’s zoo at Prague Zoo, children can pet and feed animals.

Markets

The Náplavka farmers’ market offers seasonal fruit and vegetables, pastries, mushrooms, fresh fish, various types of cheese and free-range eggs. Handcrafted products are also available.
