Srbsko: Nature Trails, Berounka and Limestone Cliffs

River Landscape

Srbsko extends along both banks of the Berounka, 6 km southeast of the royal town of Beroun, in a basin surrounded by limestone cliffs and directly within the Český kras Protected Landscape Area. A new footpath runs along the bank of the Berounka and now safely connects the individual parts of Srbsko.

Nature Trails

The Srdcem Českého krasu nature trail is a 9 km hiking route of moderate difficulty. From Srbsko, it passes the Bubovické Waterfalls, through Boubová, Propadlé vody and Hostim, and along the Kačák to its confluence with the Berounka near Kozel. It includes 12 original and 6 new information boards, 3 entrance boards, as well as various interactive, playful and educational elements.

The Po stopách českých králů nature trail is approximately 12 km long and runs along the Berounka between Srbsko, Beroun and Králův Dvůr; it is suitable for pedestrians and cyclists.

Activities

The Geological Nature Trail is a 39 km cycling route of moderate difficulty. It comprises 17 stations and leads from V Kozle via Srbsko onward to Koda, Tobolka, Kobyla and Zlatý kůň, ending in Suchomasty. The order of the stations is not binding; visitors can choose it themselves or select only part of the route.

Srbsko – levý břeh is a traditional limestone climbing area on the banks of the Berounka in the valley between Beroun and Karlštejn; climbing routes on walls, slabs and overhangs predominate there.

For planning your own day, the routes can be distinguished primarily by activity, route length and the extent of the chosen route. The Geological Nature Trail allows visitors to choose the stations themselves, while the other two nature trails are characterised by their named routes. The climbing area complements these different trails with routes on walls, slabs and overhangs.

The described options therefore differ both in the mode of travel and in route length and structure: the range extends from the 9 km hiking trail and the approximately 12 km route for pedestrians and cyclists to the 39 km cycling route.

Nature and Geology

The Karlštejn National Nature Reserve contains world-famous Palaeozoic geological profiles and palaeontological sites in natural exposures and those created by quarries, as well as surface and underground karst features.

In the immediate surroundings, the Bubovické Waterfalls may remain dry for longer periods in dry years; in winter, spring or after rainfall, they are particularly impressive.

The cadastral area of Srbsko u Berouna belongs to the cadastral areas of the Karlštejn National Nature Reserve.

History

Srbsko was first mentioned in written records in 1482. The accounts of Karlštejn Castle report that a fisherman from Srbsko bought part of the forests.

The development of Srbsko is connected with limestone quarrying; the first limestone quarry was opened in 1882 by the company J. Tomášek.
