Králův Dvůr Castle brings the historical side of the town particularly vividly to life: it was created in the 16th century by converting an earlier stone royal court. Its present appearance is the result of a Baroque renovation in the second half of the 18th century, probably attributed to Kilián Ignác Dientzenhofer.
There are no guided tours of the castle; its interior can be viewed during certain events or at weddings in the wedding hall there. The Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is a single-nave Baroque building with a set-back presbytery, a rectangular sacristy and a striking tower. The traditional town celebrations, Městské slavnosti, take place on the summer stage in the grounds of the Baroque castle in Králův Dvůr.
Trails and Geology
A yellow-marked hiking trail leads from Popovice railway station to Koukolova hora, which is considered a popular destination for walks; the highest-altitude caves in the Český kras are located there. The Zahořanský stratotype serves to protect a rock outcrop of the Zahořany Formation of the Czech Ordovician, with typical fossil fauna.
