Cerhovice showcases its history through buildings and memorial sites with clear historical connections. At the center is the present-day Church of St. Martin, which dates from the 15th century and was later remodeled in the Baroque style.
Culture
The Church of St. Martin is a single-nave, rectangular building with a Gothic polygonal presbytery. A tower is attached to the nave on the south side. The church grounds also include a late Baroque statue of Saint John of Nepomuk to the east of the presbytery. The church stands in the middle of Cerhovice’s market square on the Beroun–Plzeň state road.
The Chapel of the Virgin Mary is also located in the village center, standing in the middle of Cerhovice’s village square.
Orientation
The lookout tower in Cerhovice has an observation platform 20 meters above the ground, accessible via 108 steps. The tower is freely accessible year-round. By car, it can be reached via Exit 41 of the D5, the settlement of Třenice, and Letná Street. Cerhovice railway station is approximately 2.5 kilometers away on foot from the lookout tower.
History
The family tomb of the Röthlingshöfer family stands in Cerhovice Cemetery, near the middle of its western wall. It consists of a sandstone stele with two lower sandstone wings and a large granite gravestone.
The railway accident memorial stands in a park laid out on the site of the former, disused Cerhovice Cemetery. It is made predominantly of reddish-brown arkose sandstone; the more elaborate pinnacles are made of Mšeno sandstone. The Neo-Gothic memorial, erected in 1868, stands above a mass grave for 22 soldiers who died in a train accident near Újezd u Cerhovic.
