Nature and Landscape

The eastern half of the municipality of Bykoš lies in the southern part of the Český kras Protected Landscape Area. The cadastral area of Bykoš includes Zones II and III of this protected landscape area. The northern part of the Bykoš area is home primarily to significant viewpoints.

Village Character and History

Bykoš developed as an agricultural clustered settlement with an elongated village green at a crossroads. The original urban structures have been preserved in the layout of the village and are intended to be preserved and protected; the original character of the buildings has also largely been retained. Among the village buildings, a farmyard at the southern crossroads of Bykoš stands out. The entrance gates to the farmsteads are another distinctive feature.

Bykoš was first mentioned in writing as early as 1170. Archaeological finds attest to Neolithic settlement from 5500 to 4300 BC, as well as later sites from the Bronze Age, the Early and Late Iron Ages, and the Roman Imperial period. Finds of Linear Pottery culture and Stroke Ornamented Pottery culture, as well as stone tools, have also been discovered.

Dýňová farma Bykoš

Dýňová farma Bykoš offers pumpkins for decoration and carving, as well as edible varieties such as Musquée de Provence, butternut and Hokkaido pumpkins. Children can enjoy a billy goat, rabbits, chickens, a jumping clown and other attractions.

At weekends, and during the week by prior arrangement, Dýňová farma Bykoš offers refreshments such as pumpkin soup, grilled dishes, pumpkin cake and mulled wine with fruit.
