Zemunik Gornji: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Zemunik Gornji is the birthplace of Archbishop Ivan Prenđa. A statue of him stands in the square at the beginning of the road to the parish church of St. Joseph the Worker.

Culture and History

The filial church of St. Joseph the Worker in Zemunik Gornji belongs to the parish of Kraljica mira – Kraljica Hrvata and was consecrated on 27 April. Its patronal dedication is to Saint Joseph the Worker. In recent years, investment has been made in the restoration of the church.

The church, initially dedicated to Saint George, became the parish church of the medieval villages of Podberjane and Starovšane in the 13th century; these correspond to present-day Gornji Zemunik.

A mural bears the title “Srce sam tebi dao i nije mi žao”. In the part of Zemunik Gornji crossed by the Kalmetina, there is also a new mural dedicated to Hajduk. It was created by local Hajduk supporters; its presentation brought residents and fans together.

Funding was secured for equipping a children's playground at the Športsko rekreacijski centar Zemunik Gornji.

Events

The sixth “Roland Vrsaljko” memorial five-a-side football tournament took place in Zemunik Gornji. The five-a-side football tournament lasted ten days.

Landscape

The municipal area of Zemunik Donji, to which Zemunik Gornji belongs, lies in the flat, field-dominated landscape of Ravni kotari. There are occasional low hills of no more than 200 m, limestone-dominated elevations and shallow depressions; Zemunik Gornji lies at an average altitude of 105 m. The landscape features sub-Mediterranean plant communities as well as areas of shrubs, scrub and scree.
