Kaštel Sućurac: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The preserved bell tower of the former parish church “Church of St George” serves as a memorial commemorating the bombing of Kaštel Sućurac by the Allies in 1943, in which the church was destroyed.

Culture

The oldest defensive fortress in Kaštel Sućurac was built in 1392 by A. Gvaldo. Kaštilac is the oldest centre of Sućurac and comprises the fortified courtyard of a palace villa. The palace villa features elaborately decorated windows in the High Gothic style.

The castle of Split Archbishop Andrija Gualdo dates from the 14th century and was the first coastal castle in Kaštela. A 7th-century door lintel in Kaštel Sućurac is one of the oldest medieval epigraphic monuments in Dalmatia. Fragments of interlaced ornamentation have survived from the historic Church of St George.

The Podvorje exhibition space houses archaeological artefacts. The treasury of the new parish church preserves a copy of Trpimir’s deed of donation as well as an old stone arch from Sućurac.

Hajdučka noć in Gojača is a traditional summer gathering that brings together Hajduk supporters, residents and visitors in Kaštel Sućurac.

The Archaeological Museum is located near Kaštel Sućurac. Dalmatia and Diocletian's Palace are also in the immediate vicinity. The Mestrovic Gallery is located in the surrounding area of Kaštel Sućurac.

Hiking and Cycling

Kaštel Sućurac is the starting point of a marked mountain trail to Vela stina and the Putalj mountain lodge at an altitude of 480 metres. The marked mountain trail continues to the Vrata saddle on the Kozjak ridge.

The Bike Štorija includes a 3.5-kilometre ascent with 360 metres of elevation gain and is recommended for MTB or e-MTB bicycles.
