Culture and History

Construction of the Church of Saint Nicholas Tavelić began in 1973; it is 25 metres long and 17 metres wide.

The Sveta Kata Chapel was built near the parish house in 1904. The Church of Sveta Kata in Donji Vinjani underwent extensive renovation in 2000.

The Chapel of St Catherine is part of Donji Vinjani’s registered cultural heritage as an individual immovable cultural asset. The medieval cemetery of Rudežove kuće is also classified as an individual immovable cultural asset; it was established in the 15th century.

The Rudežove kuće site contains 22 stećci, predominantly chests and slabs, as well as a gable stone or tall stećak.

In the Vinjani parish, Rudežove kuće is the only large necropolis among nine sites with stećci from the Croatian Middle Ages.

Faith and Tradition

The feast of Saint Nicholas Tavelić was celebrated in Donji Vinjani on 14 November 2021 and 14 November 2022.

On 25 November, the feast of Saint Catherine of Alexandria was celebrated in the Church of Sveta Kata in Donji Vinjani with services, a three-day preparation period and an opportunity for confession.

Tomislavljevo is a small Marian memorial chapel and shrine in a grotto that the inhabitants of Vinjani built in 1925.

The old grotto of Tomislavljevo was restored and received a new statue of Mary.

Trails and Landscape

The Camino Imota route begins at the state border in Vinjani Donji. After a few kilometres, the Camino Imota turns towards the Church of Saint Nicholas Tavelić.

A 20-kilometre cycle path leads from Zmijavci along the Vrljika River and via Runovići, continuing across the fields to the hamlet of Rudeži in Vinjani Donji.

In the immediate vicinity of Imotski lies the Biokovo–Imotski Lakes Geopark, with themed trails, lakes and river springs.

Biokovo Nature Park offers trails and a habitat for many endemic species; from its highest peak, the view extends across Central Dalmatia.
