Gorice on the Edge of Krka National Park

Gorice lies on the edge of Krka National Park. History in the Surrounding Area

Skradin is home to the medieval Turina Fortress. It was built during the rule of Ban Pavao I. Šubić Bribirski (1273–1312), on the remains of a prehistoric Liburnian hillfort. The site thus connects medieval building history with an older fortification.

Bribirska glavica also offers a long view into the past. At this archaeological site, a sequence of settlement can be traced from prehistoric times through the Liburnian period, early and late antiquity, and Old Croatian history, to the early and late Middle Ages. Bribirska glavica is associated with the ancient city of Varvaria and Old Croatian Bribir. The site covers about 72,000 square metres and lies 300 metres above sea level.

In Skradin, the Ferdinand Budicki Museum displays vintage cars, motorcycles, bicycles, photographs, artefacts and memorabilia. The museum’s programme at Scardona Park includes themed exhibitions, lectures and discussion panels, film screenings, technical workshops and restorations. Regional Cuisine and Farm History

Skradinski rižot is a well-known speciality in the Skradin area. Regional cuisine also includes fish dishes featuring eel and trout, meat dishes, and Pršut, which is dried in the bora wind in the hinterland of Skradin. Skradinska torta is made with almonds, walnuts and honey, and is served as a welcome treat with a glass of rose liqueur. Alongside the landscapes and historic sites, regional ingredients and customs are also in the spotlight.

A specific farm story takes us back to Gorice: as a child, the future olive oil producer helped out on the family farm, where a horse, a foal, a cow, goats and pigs were kept. A family farm associated with Gorice grew grain and clover; it also had a vineyard, a fig tree and a few olive trees. These details give the history of the village an agricultural connection without conflating it with Skradin’s broader culinary traditions.
