Knin: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Fortress of Knin consists of five interconnected parts. It is located 345 metres above sea level and approximately 100 metres above Knin; access is via a movable wooden bridge. Its construction history began in the 9th century during the early Croatian Republic.

Culture

The fortress houses the permanent exhibition “Storm '95”, which opened in 2015 and displays historical documents and artefacts. The Knin Museum in the fortress also presents a permanent exhibition of ethnographic artefacts, as well as archaeological, cultural-historical and geological-palaeontological exhibits.

The collections of the Knin Museum include fossils and geological samples from the area around Knin, archaeological material from prehistory to the Late Middle Ages, as well as local furniture, handicrafts and folk costumes.

The Church of the Intercession of the Holy Virgin in Knin was originally built in 1866, destroyed in the Second World War in 1944 and replaced by a church consecrated in 1971. The Church of Saint Anthony is a symbol of Knin dating from the 18th century. It stands at the probable site of an early Croatian church and has been renovated several times.

Nature

The summit of Dinara reaches 1,831 metres, making it the highest peak in Croatia. Climbing Dinara requires extensive mountaineering experience.

The Krčić River rises from karst springs at the foot of Dinara and forms a deep, picturesque gorge in places.

Activities

There are 13 cycling routes in the area of the city of Knin. They range from easy recreational trails and long climbs to road routes.

Horse-riding options in Knin include a riding school for beginners, trail rides and riding through the forest. The Via Dinaris, Track 413, is listed in Zone 5 – Knin.
