Pag: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Pag is a Renaissance town known for its sacred architecture, the tradition of Pag lace, the history of salt production, and the central Prosika town beach. Anyone planning a trip to Pag may wish to rent a holiday apartment.

Culture and History

Pag was planned and built as a Renaissance town in the 15th century. The Church of the Assumption of Mary stands on the central town square. Its foundation stone was laid on 18 May 1443; it is also considered Pag’s most valuable monument of sacred architecture.

Kula Skrivanat is the only surviving one of the nine towers that defended the town of Pag. Today, a promenade runs alongside the tower, and various cultural and entertainment events are held at Kula Skrivanat during the summer months. Pag lace was entered into the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2009.

Stari grad Pag is an archaeological site and a sanctuary. The Romanesque Church of St. Mary has been preserved there. At the Paška čipke Gallery, visitors can see how Pag lace is made.

The Ethno Gallery of KUD Družina displays Pag shirts decorated with Pag lace, as well as historical furniture and photographs that bear witness to life in Pag in the past. The folk play Robinija is traditionally performed during the carnival season and as part of the Pag Summer and Ethno Evenings.

Getting There

The town of Pag can be reached via the Pag Bridge. Buses reach it from two directions, either via the Pag Bridge or via the Prizna–Žigljen ferry. A catamaran connects Rijeka with Novalja via Rab and takes two and a half hours. Zemunik Airport near Zadar is connected to Pag and is stated to be 42 km away.

Nature and Beach

Prosika town beach is Pag’s central beach. It offers swimming, sunbathing, beach volleyball, tennis, pedal boating, jet skiing, and water slides.

In the Lokunja district, in the heart of Pag, there is a natural spa with mud-rich sediments. Centuries-old dry-stone walls and boundary walls are regarded as defining testimonies to Pag’s past and as enduring monuments to the arduous work of Pag’s laborers.

Salt and Local Traditions

Starting on 1 June, the Pag Saltworks offers outdoor educational workshops on the history and production of salt as part of the Jutra u poljima soli program. The workshops allow participants to taste various salts and fleur de sel, and offer the opportunity to collect salt under the guidance of an experienced employee of the Pag Saltworks.
