Vele Srakane: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Vele Srakane is one of the island settlements whose landscape is distinguished by a special geological substrate. Vele Srakane, Male Srakane, Susak and Unije have loess deposits, which differ from the limestone and dolomite that predominate on the other Kvarner Islands. There is almost no forest on these loess substrates. The special substrate is also associated with characteristic flora and fauna that do not occur on the other Kvarner Islands.

Nature

Vele Srakane is home to the coastal bentgrass grassland community Agrostetum maritimae. Outside the Srakane Islands, this grassland community is largely unknown.

Culture and History

A prehistoric hill fort was located on Vela Straža. The old fort on Vela Straža is a preserved relic of a fortification that once served to defend against pirates. In addition, a gravestone from Roman times has been built into the corner of Skrivanić House on Vele Srakane.

There are no cars on Vele Srakane and Male Srakane. A boat landing from Mali Lošinj is recorded for Gornja Trata.

The nearby surroundings of Vele Srakane include Otočić Srakane Vele and Otočić Srakane Male. The surrounding area includes Osorscica - vrh Sv. Mikula and Otok Lošinj. Losinj Port is located in the wider regional surroundings of Vele Srakane.
