Lukovdol: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Culture and History

The grounds of the Ivan Goran Kovačić Memorial Museum include an amphitheatre and a monument created by the sculptor Vojin Bakić, next to the renovated birthplace of the poet. Since 1963, the poets’ gathering Goranovo proljeće has been held in Lukovdol on the first day of spring, 21 March.

Lukovdol is situated above the Kupa River. In the Middle Ages, the town was under the control of the Frankopans. In the 16th century, Lukovdol was burned down by the Ottomans and subsequently rebuilt. The parish of Lukovdol was established in 1604; at the same time, the town is considered one of the oldest settlements in Gorski kotar.

Route Staza 3. Lukovdol–Severin (Carskom cestom) leads towards Lukovdol, then climbs to Nadvučnik and Stubica before returning to Vrbovsko. It is classified as moderately difficult.

The MTB route Staza Goranovog proljeća is listed as a circular route from Vrbovsko via Lukovdol and Nadvučnik back to Vrbovsko.

Archaeology

Tetinja jama, located above Lukovdol, has yielded pottery from the second millennium BC as well as from the 15th and 16th centuries. An archaeological interpretation suggests that the cave served as a refuge for local inhabitants during the Ottoman incursions.
