Labin: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Labinska čakavica has the status of protected intangible cultural heritage. The National Museum of Labin in Palazzo Battiala-Lazzarini presents the town’s mining history through mine tunnels and a mining display.

Culture

The old town of Labin has a well-preserved main square with a loggia dating from the 16th century. Porta Sanfior is the main gate of the town of Labin, dates from 1589 and bears the coat of arms of Labin as well as a lion of the Serenissima. The memorial collection dedicated to Matthias Flacius Illyricus has been located on the first floor of Palazzo Francovich in Labin’s old town since it opened on 22 December 1975.

The so-called Labin Republic refers to the armed uprising of the miners of the Labin region in 1921. The bell tower of St Justus in Labin was built in 1623 and is 35 metres high. The Šoht tower is 30.93 metres high; its vertical shaft reaches a depth of 570 metres. Šoht is a tall steel tower and a monument to the area’s rich mining past; it is regarded as a symbol of Labin and its inhabitants.

The Labin City Gallery is housed in the former Palazzo Luciani in the old town as an exhibition space of the National Museum of Labin. At the entrance to Labin lies Dubrova Sculpture Park, a 40-hectare open-air gallery.

Trails and Landscape

The Sentona Trail leads through a protected natural landscape in the Labin region. The Labinske šterne Trail passes several springs, including Vrućak, Blažićevo and the spring in Negrijeva špilja, and then continues to numerous cisterns in the town of Labin. The Trail of Divine Springs runs along the waterfalls of the Pećina stream; a spring is located in Negri’s Cave.

Culinary Delights

In addition to fresh produce, Labin Market offers local products such as olive oil, cheese, homemade sausages, honey and wine. Labin’s mining-history-inspired culinary offerings include Labinski krafi, a ravioli-like pasta dish, and black cuttlefish risotto.
