In the centre of Momjan is the House of Castles, an interpretation and visitor centre dedicated to the Istrian castle landscape. Multimedia presentations, 3D reconstructions and virtual reality bring the region’s castle heritage to life there.

Culture and history
Momjan Castle is also known as Rota Castle. The name recalls the Rota family, who owned it for several hundred years. In 1548, Simone Rota gave the castle its trapezoidal shape with a square tower.
The parish church of St Martin is also part of the town’s history. It dates from the 15th century and was extended in 1859. The church preserves a custodia dating from 1559 in an arcade pillar decorated with reliefs.
Landscape
The castle is situated above the Dragonja River and overlooks it. Today, the Dragonja forms the border between Croatia and Slovenia.
In the surrounding area between Kaštel and Momjan, the Cingarela waterfall and cave lie in a gorge crossed by the Poganja or Arđila stream. The landscape around Momjan is also considered particularly suitable for growing grapevines, olive trees and fruit trees.
Wine and local character
Momjan is associated with Momjanski muškat, also called Moscato di Momiano. This wine is described as one of 18 Croatian wines with an EU certificate of authenticity.
Kozlović Winery has been producing wine continuously since 1904 at the same location in the Vale Valley at the foot of Momjan.
Trails and routes
The Momjan Trail 283 begins at the entrance to Momjan, leads towards the parish church of St Martin and the medieval Rota Castle, and then descends into the valley of the Argila stream. After a section through the Marušići area, the trail returns to Momjan via Smilovići and Sv. Mauro. The trail is approximately 17.1 kilometres long, moderately difficult, takes around five and a half hours and is suitable for hiking all year round.
The Cingarela hiking route in the surrounding area is approximately 8 kilometres long and takes around 3 hours. It is described as challenging and steep and includes several rope-assisted descents.
Staza momjanskog muškata, also called the Momjan Moscato Route, is a named cycling route associated with Momjan. The route reaches Momjan from Buje and passes the medieval castle before descending towards the valley. In addition, Medieval Towns and Wine Roads of Momjan is the name of a named cycling itinerary.
