The Staševica Valley is surrounded by mountains and shaped by the Matica River. In this landscape, cycling routes, hikes, historical landmarks, wine and water excursions come together.

Cycling

The nearby Polje Jezero is a cycling destination and also Croatia’s first cycling destination organised through a network of waymarked junctions. Visitors can use this network to put together routes through vineyards, along the Matica River and to viewpoints. In the Staševica Valley, unpaved paths through the fields serve as cycling routes.

The Bike and Wine excursion starts and finishes in Staševica, followed by a tasting of wine and food at a local winery.

Culture and History

The parish church of Saint Anastasius (St. Staš) in Staševica was built in 1979; its four-month restoration has been completed. Staševica is considered to have been named after Saint Anastasius (St. Staš). Near Jezero are the remains of an early Christian basilica from the 5th century dedicated to him. The cult of Saint Anastasius was apparently widespread between the Neretva region and the Dubrovnik hinterland.

The hiking excursion Putevima Predaka starts in the centre of Staševica and explores old villages, drinking-water springs, sacred buildings and ancient necropolises around the town. In the nearby area, it visits the Grebine–Crnoća and Kod Kule stećci necropolises.

Cuisine

The guided Putevima Predaka excursion includes a stop in Staševica at a winery and an OPG, with tastings of local specialities and wine. Trnak is a grape variety that grows exclusively in the Staševica Valley.

The meeting point for the kayaking tour in Staševica offers free parking. A kayaking excursion on the Matica River reaches the main bathing area in Staševica.
