The Arboretum’s historic garden estate began with the construction of the garden of the Gučetić summer residence between 1494 and 1502. The estate and the arboretum are protected cultural heritage; the site is also a protected garden monument of garden architecture.

The Trsteno Arboretum is a 28-hectare historic estate within Trsteno. It includes formal gardens, ancient olive groves and areas of natural vegetation.

The plant collections include Asian, American, African and Australian species. They are complemented by cultivated olives, citrus plants, grapevines, palms, yuccas, aloes, cacti, bamboo and woody pelargoniums.

The arboretum serves scientific, museum, teaching, educational and tourism functions.

Gradina and Veliki Vrh are located in the immediate vicinity of Trsteno. Severna Pećina, Lovrijenac, Želin Glas, Sponza Palace and Rector's Palace are located in the surrounding area of Trsteno. The Tresteno Arboretrum is also located in the immediate vicinity of Trsteno.
