Donji Miholjac: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

In the center of Donji Miholjac lies the Mailáth Castle complex in a large park. In the western part of the Donji Miholjac fishponds, the Podpanj Special Ornithological Reserve covers 84.99 hectares.

Culture and History

The complex has the legal status Z-1631. The historic park at the complex preserves terraces, paths and rondels near the castle. Prandau Castle was built in 1818 in the late Baroque style and preserves decorative architectural elements that connect its old and new parts.

Mailath Castle was built between 1903 and 1906 according to a design by the Budapest architect Istvan Moller. The building features architectural characteristics associated with the English Tudor style. The first references to St. Michael's Church in Donji Miholjac are said to date from 1057.

The traditional Miholjačko Sijelo cultural festival includes regional dances, songs, customs, exhibitions, plays and concerts. The Prandau Festival runs from May to October and includes several classical music concerts. It also promotes organ and chamber music and revitalizes the cultural heritage and musical tradition of the Hileprand-Prandau family.

Nature

Podpanj records 106 bird species, including 20 bird species threatened in Europe, and is important for bird habitat as well as nesting, migration and wintering. Along the western edge of Donji Miholjac, the reserve includes reed beds, marshes and riparian woodland structures, which were jointly protected as a reserve in 1998.

The park in Donji Miholjac covers 20 hectares and has been protected as a monument of park architecture since 1958. Most of it is laid out in the English style with lawns, groups of trees and landscape paths. The Drava extends for 22.40 kilometers along Donji Miholjac.

Events

The 2026 tourism program includes Advent in Donji Miholjac throughout December for visitors, with concerts, a Christmas market and gastro presentations. Also scheduled for December is Put meda–Dan meda: at Trg A. Starčevića, beekeepers present honey products and offer honey tasting and distribution.

Slavonija u zjenici oka presents traditional crafts and customs, a fair for local products, as well as a gastro event.

Leisure

Stara Drava is a recreational area north of the city; visitors can enjoy clean nature, walks and socializing there. Sports, cultural and leisure events also take place there. The XC-MTB trail at Stara Drava is 4 kilometers long and follows wooded, winding paths beside the Drava. A pump track course is connected to the Prandau-Mailáth Park.
