Nature
Seline is located between a pebble beach and the Mala Paklenica gorge. Entrance 2 to Paklenica National Park is located in Seline, before the Mala Paklenica gorge. Mala Paklenica is known for its wilderness and unspoilt nature. The gorge has rock walls up to 300 metres high and is no more than 10 metres wide in some places. Tickets purchased at Entrance 2 are also valid for Entrance 1 to Paklenica National Park.
Trails and coast
Promenades and pedestrian and cycling paths connect Seline with Starigrad and lead through picturesque hamlets in the mountainous hinterland. The 8 km-long pedestrian and cycling path “Short Journey Through the Past” is classified as easy and connects Starigrad with Seline. The path through the mountainous hinterland leads past old hamlets and offers views of the Velebit Channel.
Visitors can descend to the coast from every hamlet along the way and swim in the sea. Along the path connecting Seline with the hinterland, visitors can see stone-built fountains and village cisterns dating from the Austro-Hungarian period.
Culture and history
St Peter’s Church is a medieval church on the Adriatic coastal road between Starigrad and Seline. It was built in the pre-Romanesque Old Croatian style, probably at the transition from the 9th to the 10th century. The church has been archaeologically investigated and completely restored.
An old fountain in the centre of Seline on Put bunarića was built using traditional dry-stone walling techniques. In Mala Paklenica, a stone dam from one of the old mills has been preserved. The former main village cistern near the hamlet of Jurline was built during the Austro-Hungarian period.
Near Seline, the Mirila are classified as protected cultural assets of the Republic of Croatia. A tourist map of the Mirila educational trails is available at the tourist information centre in Seline.
