Otočac: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Otočac is home to Fortica Fortress, one of only two remaining regular triangular towers in Croatia.

Culture

Fortica was built in 1619 to protect Otočac. From the foot of the fortress, fifteen Stations of the Cross lead to a chapel near the summit.

Access to the permanent exhibition of the Gacka Museum is currently temporarily unavailable during a multi-year renewal project. Temporary exhibitions and other museum activities remain available in the building. The permanent exhibition is divided into six units featuring objects from six museum collections; the archaeological section displays around 300 artefacts dating from the Bronze Age to the Middle Ages.

The Church of the Holy Trinity in Otočac is a single-nave late Baroque and Neoclassical building with a rectangular ground plan. It is protected as a cultural asset of the Republic of Croatia.

Gačanski Park of Croatian Memory presents a chronological sequence that begins with Duke Borna and ends with the town of Otočac.

Nature and Trails

The Gacka flows near Otočac into the Karlov Canal and subsequently joins the Lika. It is a slow-flowing karst river with rich aquatic flora and fauna.

The walking path along the banks of the Gacka stretches for several kilometres and includes views of the stone bridge connecting the lower and upper parts of the town.

The Jurjeve stijene cycling route starts at Kralja Zvonimira 34 in Otočac and covers 42.4 kilometres. Participants in the Gromkova Trail gather in Otočac town park.

Geographical Location

The Gacka/Otočac area can be reached by road from Senj and the Primorje via Vratnik, from Ogulin and Gorski Kotar via the Velika–Mala Kapela passes, from Plitvice and Krbava via Homoljački klanac, and from Gospić and Lika via Janjča.

In the vicinity of Otočac, the Croatian Centre for Indigenous Species of Fish and Crayfish in Karstic Waters offers groups or individuals visits lasting approximately one hour.
