The Kuterevo Bear Refuge can be visited in spring, summer and autumn. In spring and autumn, visitors register at the Volunteer Station for an introduction and a guided information tour led by long-serving volunteers. The Kuterevo Bear Refuge project was launched in 2002 with the mission of providing shelter for orphaned bear cubs. Visitor education is part of the programme and brings visitors closer to the wildlife and the bears.

Nature
The Volunteers’ Station in Kuterevo was established in 2004 as a place for cultural exchange and education about sustainable living. The presence of bears, lynxes and wolves in the area is also regarded as an indication of preserved nature and biodiversity.
The 52-kilometre-long Hajduk’s Valley Trail leads through the tri-border area of Kuterevo, Krasno and Kosinj, as well as through the Bear Refuge in Kuterevo. The Ursa Major Trail is dedicated to the European brown bear.
Cycling
The 34.7-kilometre-long Ursa Major cycle route begins at the dam by the Vivoški Bridge.
Culture and Tradition
Kuterevo has the parish church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. The village preserves rural architecture and domestic traditions, including the production of wooden objects such as the Dangubica, barrels and chairs.
The KUD “Dangubice” Kuterevo was founded in 2011 to preserve local traditions, customs, singing, dancing and the village dialect. It holds an annual concert in Kuterevo. The name “Dangubice” comes from the traditional tamburica played in Kuterevo.
In Kuterevo, Karmenica is the festival of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, celebrated on 16 July, and includes a traditional procession.
Geographical Location
Kuterevo can be reached from the A1 Zagreb–Split motorway via the Otočac exit.
