History and Culture
A Pauline monastery history has been handed down for the area of Donje Pazarište: in 1411, a monastery and the Church of Saint Mary in Gračina were recorded. The present-day parish church of St. James was later remembered locally as a “kloštar”; it was also reported to have been built before 1700. The present-day Church of the Apostle James was built around 1839 on the foundations of a 15th-century Pauline monastery. It was reported for 1896 that parishioners called the Church of St. James “kloštar”. It is classified as a single immovable cultural asset in Donje Pazarište.
