Brušane: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Nature

The route passes through a landscape featuring hawthorn, hornbeam, dog rose, hazel, black pine, and beech. There is a short 14-kilometre tour and a long 24-kilometre tour. After three kilometres, you reach the Suvaja stream. Next to it stands a small covered wooden hut where you can stop and rest.

The hike from Brušane to Konjevača takes about three and a half hours one way and begins at the end of Brušane below Takalica. From the summit of Konjevača, the view extends towards almost all of the Velebit peaks.

Several springs in the Brušane area have their own names: Rimsko vrelo, Pavlinovo vrelo, Košna voda, Škvadra, and Zobine. Rimsko vrelo is considered particularly attractive to today’s tourists.

History

Brušane is connected with historic routes across Velebit. The historic Karolinška Road from Gospić to Bag passed through the settlement. The Gospić–Karlobag road was built in 1787 and later improved with sections of serpentine bends between 1844 and 1850.

Regarding the Church of St. Martin the Bishop in Brušane, it is recorded that a pre-Ottoman church stood in ruins after the liberation of Lika, and that a new Church of St. Martin was mentioned towards the end of the 17th century.

Culture

The Church of St. Martin the Bishop in Brušane is classified as immovable cultural property in the category of sacral architectural heritage. A Glagolitic inscription from 1512 is located on its stone threshold.
