Trails and Landscape

As an educational trail, the Ksaverova staza leads over the hills above Gredice, following paths once used by the writer Ksaver Šandor Gjalski. The route runs through the hills around Balaškov brijeg and Picelj. Historically, the landscape was characterised by orchards, vineyards and arable land.

The nearby Poučni park Picelj showcases native tree and shrub species of Hrvatsko Zagorje.

Culture

In Pavlovec, the Kapelica Majke Božje stands on the main road beside the Sitnica stream. Older residents date its construction to around 1890 and name Petar Tomek as its founder. The chapel was extensively restored in 1997 and is considered to require restoration again.

The parish’s Good Friday Way of the Cross includes the chapel in Pavlovec as the thirteenth station.

Nearby is Gredice Castle, located between Gubaševo and Pavlovec-Zabočki. It was built around 1772 on the site of a 16th-century manor house, reconstructed in the 1990s, and now houses Hotel Dvorac Gjalski.

Gjalski Castle is located in Gredice Zabočke and houses the Gjalski Castle Hotel and Restaurant; it is considered the home of the writer Ksaver Šandor Gjalski.

Food and Event Venues

The nearby Dvorac Gjalski restaurant offers home-style cooking associated with the flavours of Hrvatsko Zagorje. Zaboky Selo consists of three cottages with terraces enclosing a large courtyard. It is intended for weddings and themed bachelorette parties.

Zaboky Selo is associated with event catering that uses local ingredients from family farms and dishes prepared according to traditional local recipes.

The nearby Gjalski Castle Hotel has a wine shop, seminar rooms and a large summer terrace with a children’s park in the castle grounds.
