Hiking Trails
The route from Jasenak via the Bijele stijene mountain hut to the summit of Bijele stijene takes about three hours. Two ascents to the summit of Samarske stijene begin at Begova staza, a forest road between Jasenak and Tuk.
The summit of Samarske stijene can be reached from the 13th kilometre in Mlečikov lug in about one hour. This access route is the shortest and also the steepest. The ascent from Vrelo via Gomirkovica to Kula on Bjelolasica takes about three and a half hours.
Rocky Landscape
Samarske stijene consist of about twenty white rock groups rising from a mixed forest. At Bijele stijene, there are numerous vertical white rock formations about 50 metres high, as well as deep, impassable sinkholes and chasms. In some of these depressions, snow remains throughout the year.
Culture and History
Jasenak includes the Orthodox Church of Saint Lazarus the Great Martyr, as well as Rudolfina Road, which connects Ogulin, Jasenak and Novi Vinodolski. The church is listed as protected cultural heritage under registration number Z-5282.
The first recorded mountaineering ascent of Bjelolasica is dated to 1862.
Cycling Route and Geographical Setting
The marked local Dobra cycling route branches off towards Jasenak. In the Ogulin outdoor travel area, Begova staza, Samarske stijene and Bijele stijene are shown near Jasenak.
Bjelolasica is the highest mountain in the Velika Kapela massif and reaches 1,534 metres.
