Gornji Budački: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

The Partizanska oficirska škola Glavnog štaba Hrvatske began operating in Gornji Budački on 21 February 1942. It was intended for the commanders of partisan units from Lika, Kordun, Banija, Gorski kotar and the Croatian Littoral. The school is described as the first military school of the Yugoslav National Liberation War and was founded in Gornji Budački.

Culture and History

Several heritage buildings are associated with Gornji Budački: the ethnological building at Gornji Budački 13, the memorial buildings Zgrada GŠ and Zgrada Oficirske škole, Kuća Rade Peurače at Gornji Budački 12, Kuća Matijević at Gornji Budački 5, and another memorial building at Gornji Budački 9. The heritage building Zgrada Glavnog štaba and the heritage building Kuća Matijević Bože are also associated with the village.

By November 1942, 360 students had graduated from the lower course of the Partizanska oficirska škola Glavnog štaba Hrvatske, while there were 44 in the higher course. Vladimir Matijević is also part of the area's historical connection: he was born in 1854 in the area of Gornji Budački near Karlovac, co-founded the Serbian Bank in Zagreb, helped organise Serbian agricultural cooperatives and founded the Privrednik association in 1897.

Nature

The Brebornica ecological network area extends partly into Gornji Budački, but lies mostly within the settlement of Brebornica. The area's target species are the Adriatic lizard orchid and the noble crayfish.

Historical Traces

Gornji Budački is also recorded under the historical form “Ober Budachky”. The road running through Gornji Budački led northwards to a church referred to as “Nova Czerkva”.
