In the area of the City of Duga Resa, the protected Mrežnica landscape covers an area of 1,401.79 hectares. There, it includes the lower course of the Mrežnica. More than 90 tufa waterfalls have been recorded along the Mrežnica in the surrounding area; within the protected landscape, 29 tufa barriers have been documented.

The Mrežnica watercourse is an important habitat for the strictly protected stone crayfish and noble crayfish. The Mrežnica area is also home to six fish species endemic to the Danube basin. The protected landscape encompasses karst geology with caves, sinkholes, and underground formations. It is also connected to the Natura 2000 site HR2000593 Mrežnica–Tounjčica.

Activities

From Mrzlo Polje, Vinica can be reached via Belajske Poljice in approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. The Mladen Polović mountain hut is located near Vinica and is managed by HPD Vinica from Duga Resa. The Four Karlovac Rivers Trail includes a section from Mrzlo Polje via Mrežnički Most to Vinica, taking 1 hour and 30 minutes. The trail can also be completed in sections and cycled in dry weather.

Around Duga Resa, the Šetalište Tušmer on Vinica offers opportunities for walking and enjoying the landscape. Paths along the Mrežnica are among the options for hiking and cycling.

An approximately 8-kilometre-long tourist canoe route runs along the Mrežnica around Duga Resa. Depending on the number of swimming and rest breaks, it takes about 3 to 5 hours, passes approximately ten tufa barriers, and can be used by children accompanied by a parent.

KŠR Mrežnica is associated with fishing activities in the tourism area of the four rivers.

A wine-road offering is developing in the Duga Resa area. Local specialities are connected with established restaurants.
