In Slavonski Brod, the Muzej Brodskog Posavlja comprises natural science, archaeological, ethnographic, cultural history and contemporary history departments, as well as a gallery. Guided visits are available by prior arrangement; the museum also sells publications and postcards.

History

The authentic historic interior of Kuća Brlić is connected with the literary life of Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić. The Brod Fortress is a significant historic attraction in the centre of Slavonski Brod and is located about a five-minute walk from the main square. Its cultural facilities include a tambura museum, traditional crafts and the Gallery Ružić, which presents contemporary Croatian art as well as the Croatian tradition of visual art in a permanent exhibition and temporary exhibitions.

The Franciscan Monastery in Slavonski Brod is a Baroque complex whose church interior contains richly developed Baroque furnishings. From the main square, it can be reached in ten minutes on foot via a riverside promenade. The cloister is described as an outstanding example of Baroque monastic architecture in Slavonia.

Water and Activities

The Poloj recreational centre is located three kilometres east of the centre of Slavonski Brod on the Sava. It offers a sandy river beach, sports courts, public barbecue areas, children’s playgrounds and an organised swimming area accessible via a 2.5-kilometre jogging and cycling path.

Gradski Bazeni Vijuš has three indoor pools and an outdoor pool for swimming lessons, beginner training, synchronised swimming and recreational swimming. In addition, some of the approximately 30 classified cycle routes run through lowland areas along the Sava, through rural areas, wetlands and pastureland.
