Culture and History

The cultural and historical ensemble of Milna is designated as a cultural asset. Blaca House still stands at the northern end of the harbour. It served as a trading and storage house for the priests of Blaca.

The Church of Our Lady of the Annunciation was built in the Baroque style in 1783. Its stone bell tower is older than the church building and was constructed in the 16th century. The church also contains a former chapel dedicated to Saint Mary dating from 1519, which now serves as a sacristy.

The Church of St John the Baptist was built in the 14th century during the transition from the Romanesque to the Gothic style. It contains Baroque reliefs by the sculptor Matko Mijić.

The Church of St Nicholas, dedicated to the patron saint of sailors, stands at the harbour entrance. A festival is celebrated there on Saint Nicholas Day, which is particularly honoured by Milna's sailors. The parish community also celebrates the Feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel as its parish festival.

There are 14 stone Stations of the Cross chapels on the way from Milna to Osibova.

Landscape and Activities

Beneath the surface of the water in the bays of Milna, limestone formations create underwater cliffs, caves and pillars. Cycling is offered in Milna as an active tourism activity.

Festivals and Cuisine

Potezanje Mrduje is a central event in the summer programme of Šolta and Milna and has been held in July since 2008.

Brujet is a traditional fish dish that is frequently prepared in Milna.
