The protected Taushan Tepe area lies entirely within the territory of Nevsha and covers 305.26 hectares. It preserves steppe vegetation that has survived since antiquity. The area is home to dozens of rare plant species listed in Bulgaria’s Red Book. Those wishing to rent a holiday apartment in Nevsha can then continue their search for accommodation.

In the canyon of the Provadiyska River, above Nevsha railway station, lie the Golyamo and Malko Bulo rock formations. The new eco-trail also passes through the Duza locality, which regularly attracts paragliders.

Things to Do

A 10-kilometre eco-trail begins in the village’s central square and leads to the Golyamo and Malko Bulo rock formations. The route is accessible to hikers and cyclists and includes prehistoric artefacts, limestone formations, the remains of an ancient rock monastery, and habitats of protected species. Along the way, there are signposts, safety railings, and rest areas.

Culture and History

Nevsha hosts the “Nevsha Sings and Dances” festival, which has become established as a celebration of folk art. The earliest evidence of permanent settlement in the territory of Nevsha dates back to the Early Iron Age. Later, a Roman road leading to Marcianopolis crossed the territory of Nevsha.

Medieval monks’ cells have been carved into the rock in the rocky ridges surrounding Nevsha. Nevsha is also associated with the only medieval sundial discovered in Bulgaria.
