Vievo: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Vievo’s natural surroundings offer opportunities for fishing. There is a paintball field near the locality of Shafrana. The Shafrana water source, described as water with healing properties, is located in the locality of Govedarnika. On St George’s Day, local people collect water from Shafrana in a ritual to protect the health of people, houses and animals.

Culture

The Chitalishte Iskra-1957 serves as Vievo’s cultural centre. It develops library and amateur arts activities, has men’s, women’s and children’s singing groups, and organises clubs, courses, celebrations, concerts and activities for young people. It also creates and preserves museum collections. The singing groups take part in local, regional and national festivals and gatherings.

The Chitalishte building houses an ethnographic collection of traditional costumes and household objects, as well as the photo exhibition “Vievo—past, present and future.” Vievo’s annual village festival takes place on the last Saturday in May. Vievo was the birthplace of Emil Uzunski, the founder and director of the Vievska folklore group. This group preserves and popularises Rhodope songs.

The photo collection of the Vievo Chitalishte contains a separate section on the Vievska folklore group. The Vievtsi folk ensemble at Vievo’s Chitalishte has 25 members. The exhibition “Memories in Photos” presents photographs from 1940 to the present day.

The Vievo library offers free access to books and information, activities for children, literary readings, creative games, clubs and initiatives dedicated to local memory.

Geographical setting

Haidushki Polyani is 24 km from Vievo and is described as a place with excellent conditions for recreation and tourism. The National Astronomical Observatory near Rozhen is 22 km from Vievo and is described as the largest astronomical observatory in the Balkans and Southeastern Europe.
