Polkovnik Serafimovo: Holiday Apartments and Holiday Homes

Geographical Location

The settlement consists of 16 hamlets scattered close to one another. Polkovnik Serafimovo is described as being 7 km from Smolyan and 20 km from Pamporovo. Access is via an asphalt road described as being in good condition.

Nature

The Alamushnitsa stream flows through the village lands towards the Arda River. Small waterfalls and pools occur along the courses of the local streams. In the surrounding area, residents have built numerous fountains that provide spring water.

History

According to local tradition, the first settlers came from Davidkovo more than 450 years ago. The settlement was previously known by the names Osikovo, Yabalkovo and Alamidere. In 1934, it was renamed Polkovnik Serafimovo in honour of Colonel Vladimir Serafimov.

The Vavedenie Bogorodichno Church was built in 1836 and is designated as an artistic cultural monument. The 1912 battle in the area around the village is remembered in the Smolyan region as the “Rhodope Shipka”. The Srednogorets summit memorial ossuary commemorates the soldiers of the 21st Srednogorski Regiment who fell in the battles of 1912 and can be reached from Smolyan via the road towards Rudozem and Polkovnik Serafimovo.

Culture

The village holiday is Petrovden on 29 June. The National Folklore Competition “With the Songs of Georgi Chilingirov” is scheduled to take place in Polkovnik Serafimovo in the last week of June 2026.

The village area is recognised as a highly prestigious hunting area in Bulgaria and Europe.
