Dospat is located directly on the Dospat Reservoir. The reservoir is 18 kilometres long, approximately 1 kilometre wide, and was created in 1967. A modern promenade runs along its shore, known locally as “Little Bosphorus”. The Dospat Reservoir welcomes visitors year-round; summer is described as its busiest season.
Nature and Water
The Dospat Reservoir is also associated with sport fishing. Fishing is done with a float, on the bottom, with a fly line, using lures, and with Buldo rigs.
Keltepe Ecopark has a 790-metre-long tourist trail with rest areas, tables, and a stage. The trail also provides information about trees, birds, mammals, the relief, rivers, and the reservoir.
Culture and History
The Rhodope Fountain Park Museum in Keltepe presents the local fountain-building craft through fountain models and a panoramic trail. Dospat’s cultural calendar has also included the Folk Creativity Festival and the Fountain Builders’ Gathering.
Dospat’s visitor route lists old houses from the National Revival period on Aleksandar Stamboliyski Street as elements of cultural tourism.
Trails and Observation
A forestry conservation centre is located along the Karadja Dere–Kaleto trail. It provides information, guided tours, and binocular rentals for observing animals and birds.
Near Dospat lies Pochilenata Barchina, with the remains of a fortress, a sanctuary, and panoramic views. The site can be reached by jeep and on foot.

Local shopping options include handmade bread and locally produced cheese products. Dospat’s Bulgarian, Rhodope, and fish-based cuisine is associated with trout, potatoes, and cheese.
