Geographical Location

Karnare is connected to Troyan via the Troyan Pass, also known as Beklemeto. The pass is approximately 50 km long and reaches 1,565 m at its highest point.

The Goraltepe Arch Memorial is located about a 15-minute walk east of Beklemeto’s highest point. A narrow paved road reaches it from the southern side. From its platform, the view extends north to the Beli Osam and Troyan valleys and south to Sredna Gora, the Rhodopes, and Rila.

Culture and History

Karnare is home to the Church of Saint George the Victorious, which was built between 1947 and 1955. Karnare is described as the only Bulgarian village that succeeded in building a church during this period.

Fragments of the Roman Via Traiana have been preserved around the Troyan Pass. The route included the Montemno high-altitude station near Beklemeto and descended in the direction of Hristo Danovo.

The Troyanski Manastir is located in the wider regional surroundings of Karnare.

Galibega, Kel Kaya (Dermen Kaya), Sivriyata, and Tabiyata are located near Karnare.

The Central Balkan National Park is located in the surrounding area of Karnare.
