Nature

The source of the Belilkata River is located near Breste. The higher southeastern parts of Drenovitsa are covered with oak, Turkey oak, lime and hornbeam forests. Forty-one caves have been recorded in and around Breste. Two caves classified as sinkholes have also been registered above and below Breste: the lower one is a vertical cave, while the upper one is located near the Kamika spring.

The Kamara natural landmark is located immediately next to Breste, southwest of Cherven Bryag. Kamara is a hill fractured into blocks by tectonic processes and can be reached via an unpaved road.

Reseleshki Kukli is located approximately 1.5 kilometres northwest of Reselets, on the road towards Breste. Near Breste, Reseleshki Kukli consists of more than 20 rock towers rising over 40 metres above the riverbed. Reseleshki Kukli has been protected as a natural landmark since 1972.

Culture and History

The Orthodox Church of Saint Dimitri in Breste is described as being in good condition and renovated. The church festival and village fair in Breste take place on Dimitrovden.

A prehistoric settlement from the Chalcolithic period has been registered in the area of Breste; it is dated to the fifth to fourth millennium BC. Two Thracian burial mounds have also been recorded in Breste’s archaeological area. A Late Antique settlement has been registered in the Gurgos locality near Breste.

Roman mosaics are visible in Breste’s archaeological area. Two Roman columns with an architectural and decorative function can also be seen there. A Roman strategic road ran through the area of Breste and has been remembered locally as Druma.
