Geographical Location

Braslau is situated on a narrow strip of land between several large lakes, in the centre of the main group of Braslau Lakes. On Mount Majak, at an elevation of 174 metres above sea level, there is a viewing platform overlooking Lake Snudy, Lake Strusto, Braslau Castle Hill, wooded hills and the surrounding church towers.

Culture and History

The Church of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Braslau is a neo-Romanesque architectural monument and is included in the State List of Historical and Cultural Values of Belarus. Its construction began in 1824; in 1897, it was expanded and remodelled in the neo-Romanesque style. The distinctive masonry is known as “Braslau mosaic”; decorative small stones are placed between larger stones.

The Museum Association of Braslau District offers visitors, guests and tourists insights into the history, distinctive culture and landscape features of the Braslau region. In Braslau District, the museum association comprises a historical and local-history museum and a museum of traditional culture; the district’s historical and cultural sights include, among others, the Maskowitschi hillfort and the churches of Braslau.

Routes and Discoveries

The “Sloboda-Ozowaja-Grjada” ecological educational trail is located 12 km from Braslau and leads through a natural landscape shaped by a glacier from the Poozerie region. On the Rustyagowski Trail, tourists can search for treasures using old maps and discover rune inscriptions.
