Discover Dietach: Churches, Museum and Circular Hiking Trail
Accommodation in Dietach
Dietach offers a journey through sacred history, farming culture and movement through the landscape. Those looking for a combination of sightseeing and walks during their stay will find several different points of interest here: Dietach Parish Church, Stadlkirchen Branch Church, the Gallhuberhof Farming and Technology Museum and the Ök.Rat Johann Gerstmayr Circular Hiking Trail. When choosing a holiday apartment, it is therefore particularly interesting to consider which of these experiences should shape your own holiday.
Church History in Dietach and Stadlkirchen
The new Dietach Parish Church was consecrated on 21 November 1982 after a construction period of 16 months. Its colourful stained-glass windows were created by the Schlierbach Glassworks and by Prof. Rudolf Kolbitsch from Linz. The tower and presbytery of the old parish church have been preserved; the presbytery serves as a weekday and baptismal chapel. This makes it possible to explore different periods of Dietach’s church history in one place.
The Stadlkirchen Branch Church also reaches far back into the past. The consecration of a chapel in honour of Saint Margaret is recorded as early as 1074. Around 1350, the painting school of St. Florian created frescoes in the presbytery. On the Sunday after Easter, White Sunday, the traditional church festival with a fair is celebrated there. Those interested in church art, regional traditions and historical architectural history can take this focus into account when planning their trip.
Gallhuberhof: Farming Culture Under One Roof
The Gallhuberhof Farming and Technology Museum combines two museums under one roof. Gallhuberhof is a quadrilateral farmstead that has been passed down through 27 generations since 1420. The museum houses 4,000 exhibits and makes everyday farming culture visible in many concrete forms. Exhibits include traditional costumes and gold bonnets, furniture, a cabbage cellar and hand tools.
The dimensions also provide an impression of the museum grounds and help with orientation on site: The site covers approximately 8,000 m², of which 2,800 m² are occupied by the exhibition hall. This makes it possible to plan the visit as a cultural element in its own right. Accommodation in Dietach is particularly suited to your travel plans if you would like to alternate between visiting the museum, exploring the churches and going for walks, without limiting your stay to just one type of experience.
Circular Hiking Trail with Views of the Northern Alps
The Ök.Rat Johann Gerstmayr Circular Hiking Trail begins at the church square in Dietach. It leads between the fields and Weißinfang into the Panholz forest. The final section runs over the Pfarrberg hill and offers panoramic views of the Northern Alps in fine weather. The route therefore combines a clearly defined starting point with a range of landscape impressions. If you like to complement your holiday with outdoor activities, the circular hiking trail can be a focus in its own right alongside the cultural destinations.
Dietach is only a few kilometres north of the city of Steyr. Traffic-calmed cycling routes have been developed to connect Dietach and Steyr. When looking for a holiday apartment, you can therefore consider whether you want to devote most of your days to Dietach’s churches and the Gallhuberhof or also include Steyr in your travel plans.
