Inside the church, above the altar of the Sorrowful Mother on the left side, there is a depiction of the personified Trinity. The Stabat Mater cycle in Steinberg also comprises twelve numbered stations.

The history of mountaineering is also part of the village’s character. In 1911, Hans Dülfer and Hans Fiechtl were the first to climb the south ridge of the Guffert. The 18-kilometre stage leads from Steinberg am Rofan through the Brandenberg Alps (Rofan) to the Erfurter Hütte. A particularly distinctive section is the Gaismoosstollen, an unlit, natural tunnel carved into the rock. This condition is a factor in deciding whether the route suits your own excursion plans.

Winter between cross-country ski tracks and small slopes

There are also various options in winter. The S2 Guffert cross-country ski track starts at the cross-country skiing centre at an altitude of around 1,000 metres and runs for 7 kilometres through varied terrain as a moderately difficult, challenging track. It includes some steeper sections and around 150 metres of elevation gain. The S1 Dorfloipe Steinberg has short uphill and downhill sections and is recommended for experienced cross-country skiers.

For first experiences on skis, the Rofanlifte ski area offers manageable slopes for beginners. The facilities include a T-bar lift, a platter lift and a rope tow.
