Gagering combines a distinctive landform with specific points of reference for your stay. The houses are situated on the small gravel cone of the Gageringer or Schwoager stream; there is also the Zillertal Railway, cycling opportunities in the Zillertal and a walk along the Ziller. When choosing a holiday apartment, you can consider whether your plans are better suited to the train connection, a regional cycling tour or a walk by the river.

Gravel Cone and Local History

The houses in Gagering are situated on the small gravel cone of the Gageringer or Schwoager stream. The landform and stream give the place a distinctive landscape. The name also has a long history: Gagering was mentioned as “Gägeringen” in the mid-14th century.

Originally, the houses belonged to the municipality of Schlitters, while the fields belonged to Fügen. Since 1857, Gagering has been part of the municipality of Fügen. This brings two different historical perspectives together: the earlier separate affiliations of the houses and fields, and the later municipal affiliation. Those interested in local history can thus get a brief insight into Gagering’s development.

Rail and Cycling in the Zillertal

The ZB1 line of the Zillertal Railway has run daily between Jenbach and Mayrhofen since 14 June 2026, serving the Gagering request stop. This type of stop is important for planning your journey. Check departure times before travelling so you can coordinate your arrival with the timetable.

A regional cycling tour follows the 31-kilometre Zillertal Cycle Path from Strass to Mayrhofen. You can also ride the route in the opposite direction; the two endpoints provide reference points for your planning. The path is considered a family route and lets you explore the entire Zillertal by bike. For families who want to include cycling in their holiday, this is a practical regional option.

A walk along the Ziller towards Hart im Zillertal is also possible from Gagering. This offers an alternative to the cycling tour: a walk by the river rather than a ride between the endpoints of the cycle route. These activities offer different options for planning your day, without requiring you to limit yourself to just one way of exploring.

Accommodation at the Entrance to Fügen

Schwoagerhof is located at the entrance to Fügen, in the Gagering district, right next to a cycle path. The accommodation offers private parking, a sunbathing lawn with a play area, a new Tyrolean-style lounge with satellite TV, and a guest kitchen. If you are travelling with children, you can factor the sunbathing lawn and play area into your accommodation choice. The guest kitchen is a useful feature if you plan to prepare your own meals. Confirm the facilities directly with the property before making a future booking.
