Kaunergrat Nature Park manages 240 km² of protected landscape. The Piller Moor and Piller Sattel offer a special insight into this natural world. There, the diversity of moorland landscapes ranges from mown fens to completely untouched raised bogs at elevations of more than 1,500 metres.

An educational trail with information boards has been created at Piller Moor to introduce visitors to the world of moorlands. Since 2015, large sections of the moorland educational trail have been accessible to people with disabilities and suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Culture and History as Excursion Destinations

Alpinarium Galtür is an exhibition and documentation centre dedicated to life in high-alpine regions. At the same time, it forms a central part of a 345-metre-long and 19-metre-high avalanche protection wall. Landeck Castle, built in the 13th century, presents the permanent exhibition “Staying or Leaving,” which conveys the eventful history of Tyrol’s Oberland region.

Smaller and unusual institutions also add their own distinctive touches. The Wing Museum was built in the shape of a grand piano; Anton Wille assembled historic grand pianos there. The Kaunertal Valley Museum displays historically valuable treasures and also provides insights into the hardship-filled lives of the valley’s former inhabitants. A visit to Zammer Lochputz includes the opportunity to tour a demonstration power station.

Berneck Castle combines several noteworthy details: a Gothic oriel window is located above the entrance gate, the castle chapel preserves significant Late Gothic frescoes, and a gallery runs along the southern side above a 130-metre-high cliff face. The viewing platform on site offers a view at eye level with the surrounding mountain peaks. Public transport to Berneck Castle is listed via line 230 to the Kauns Dorfplatz stop.

Trails for Different Types of Holiday Days

Those who enjoy being active will find various ways to travel and explore. The Tyrolean Castles Trail connects Landeck, Fließ, Tobadill, Pians, Grins, Stanz, Schönwies and Zams. The Meditation Trail begins in Zeinis and ends at the forest chapel; the hiking time is around two hours.

The Inn Cycle Path also opens up different perspectives. One section follows the old Roman road Via Claudia Augusta and passes the old Roman bridge in Tösens. The section from Martina in Switzerland’s Engadin region to Landeck in Tyrol follows asphalt and forest roads, gently descending northwards through the Inn Valley.
