Discover Wenns: Fasnacht, Museum and Piller Sattel
Accommodation in Wenns
Roller and Scheller characters are central to Wenner Fasnacht; at the Stamserhaus, the museum and nativity-scene exhibition tell the story of cultural history. Trails lead through the historic Unterdorf or over Piller Sattel, and seasonal winter activities are also part of the leisure offerings around Wenns-Piller. This gives you a choice of different focuses when planning your trip: tradition, a museum visit, trails and nature.
Wenner Fasnacht and the Stamserhaus
The main masks of Wenner Fasnacht are Roller and Scheller. Their significance makes the custom especially vivid: Scheller symbolises winter, while Roller symbolises spring. Fasnacht takes place every four years. If you would like to plan your trip around it, check the event dates and schedule your stay accordingly.
The Stamserhaus houses the Pitztal local history and nativity-scene museum. Its foundations are 700 years old. Since 2010, around 40 nativity scenes and other special items have been on display there in a permanent exhibition. The house is also linked to the life of the painter Georg Matthäus Vischer: he was born in the Stamserhaus in 1628. The nativity-scene exhibition and the building’s history therefore offer different points of interest for a culturally minded visit.
Historic Unterdorf and hiking trails
The Pitzenhöfe circular hiking trail passes through Wenns’s historic Unterdorf. The sights listed there include the museum, Platzhaus, war memorial and parish church. If you would like to reach the route by bus, you can use the Wenns Pitztalerhof or Wenns Gemeindezentrum stops. Check the timetable before travelling.
Another hike leads to G’stoanig Chapel: on the way towards Larcher Alm, a path branches off directly to the chapel; the return follows the same path. This is a straightforward route for anyone who wants to make the chapel their hiking destination without turning the walk into a circular route.
Piller Sattel and moorland
The Piller Moor nature monument at Piller Sattel is home to a great variety of moors. These include completely untouched raised bogs at elevations above 1,500 metres. This moorland offers a different focus from the historic sites in Unterdorf and provides a nature-focused option for your trip planning.
The “Piller Runde” trail leads from Wenns municipal centre over Piller Sattel at an elevation of 1,560 metres towards Fließ. The “683 | Rundtour vorderes Pitztal” also starts at the same point. The two trail names help distinguish the routes; the pass and direction are part of the route description for the Piller Runde.
Pitz Park: swimming areas and bad-weather activities
Pitz Park in Wenns has a natural swimming pond with a water surface of 1,050 m². The depth information distinguishes between two areas: the natural swimming area is up to 3 metres deep, while the shallow bathing area is a maximum of 1.35 metres deep. These measurements help you understand the swimming areas described. Check the current operating information before your visit.
For bad weather, Pitz Park offers three bowling lanes, an indoor playroom and a 9-hole indoor mini-golf course. There is also a Pitz Park restaurant with a sun terrace. As facilities may change, it is advisable to check the current offerings before your visit.
Combine the season with your accommodation search
Winter hiking, tobogganing and cross-country skiing are among the leisure activities listed around Wenns-Piller; they are tied to the winter season. When searching for a holiday apartment in Wenns, you can consider your reason for travelling and the time of year together: Fasnacht follows a four-year cycle, the listed bus stops are a practical reference point for the Pitzenhöfe circuit, and the winter activities require a visit in the appropriate season.
