Arzl in the Pitztal combines impressive nature experiences with fascinating insights into the history of the village. The Steinwand via ferrata, the Benni Raich Bridge, protected landscapes and the parish church each add their own distinct character.

Steinwand Via Ferrata and Adlerhorst Viewing Platform

The Steinwand via ferrata near Arzl is quick and easy to reach. Its main route runs through the shady north face and has a difficulty rating of B/C. There are also two variants with different requirements: the steeper variant has a difficulty range of D/E, while the easier variant has a difficulty rating of C. This allows you to choose the climbing options according to your preferred level of challenge without confusing the routes with one another.

The Adlerhorst viewing platform is located at the exit of the Steinwand via ferrata. From there, you can enjoy a view of the valley. The platform can also be reached via two hiking trails without using the via ferrata. The viewing platform is listed as being accessible from mid-April to mid-October, depending on the weather. This offers another option for a trip if you would like to enjoy the view but do not want to climb the via ferrata.

Bridge, Trails and Landscape in Arzl and Wald

The Benni Raich Bridge connects the villages of Arzl and Wald. With a span of 137.7 m, it runs 94 m above the ground. As an accessible destination for families and a summer activity, it represents a distinct option among the leisure activities in Arzl in the Pitztal. Shortly before the Magnus Chapel, the IVV circular hiking trail through Arzl follows a trail to the Benni Raich Bridge.

Another trail leads to wildlife and nature observation: the wildlife experience trail is located in Arzl/Wald near the “Waldeck” snack station. The Arzler Pitzeklamm gorge is designated as a protected landscape area. Both recommendations expand the selection for visitors who do not want to base their stay on just one activity, but instead want to include different impressions of the landscape in their travel plans.

Parish Church and Grain Mill as Cultural Destinations

The history of the village is also visible in Arzl in the Pitztal. The parish church is one of the few sacred buildings in Tyrol furnished in the Art Nouveau style. Restoration work revealed four predecessor buildings. At the same time, the church preserves a Gothic tower and an old rib-vaulted sacristy dating from the mid-15th century. For those interested in culture, this creates a multifaceted picture: Art Nouveau furnishings, older structural elements and the documented building history stand side by side in one place.

The Arzl grain mill is regarded as a technical monument to the milling of grain, which was carried out for centuries in the Alpine regions. Together with the parish church, it adds a historical perspective on religious architecture and the history of regional work to your holiday. Destinations like these are particularly suitable for days when there should be time not only for activity but also for discoveries and family conversations.

Practical Guidance for Planning Your Holiday

The natural toboggan run in Arzl is located a little outside the village centre. From the tourist information office, follow the road towards Imsterberg for approximately 1.5 km to the toboggan run. It is not illuminated. Take this approximate distance into account when planning your day and check whether the toboggan run fits into your planned itinerary.

The current notice concerning the Luis Trenker Trail is also important when choosing your routes: it is currently closed for safety reasons. Therefore, do not currently include this trail in your excursion plans. For other activities, the bridge, hiking trails, wildlife experience trail, Adlerhorst and cultural destinations offer a variety of options.
