Gasen: Trails, Music and Almenland Nature Park
Accommodation in Gasen
Gasen combines trails through the Almenland landscape with musical history, regional features and vivid nature experiences. The municipality belongs to the Almenland region and is part of Almenland Nature Park. When choosing a holiday apartment or holiday home, it is therefore worth focusing above all on the day trips you want to enjoy: Should a hike be the main focus, are you interested in culture, or would you like to discover nature-related topics together with your children?
Hiking with different focuses
The Stoakogler Local Heritage Trail is a 10-kilometre circular route. It starts and ends at the Stoani House in Gasen. This means the route can be planned as a full day of hiking without losing sight of the starting and finishing points. For a shorter route in the village, there is the Mühlenpanorama Trail, which starts and ends in the centre of Gasen. If you would like to consider different trail lengths when planning your trip, these two options can provide different focal points.
Another experience combines the landscape with an important regional topic. The Gasen Flood Protection Experience Trail focuses on water as the source of life and, at the same time, as a natural hazard. It playfully explains the power of water, why flood protection is important and the role the forest plays in the water cycle. In 2024, the project, with its flood protection measures and experience trail, took second place in the Flooding/Heavy Rain category at the State Award for Climate Change Adaptation (CliA).
Music, History and Insights into Everyday Life
The Stoani House of Music focuses on the Stoanis music group. A multimedia show in a cinema setting and listening stations where the Stoanis share personal and moving stories make the house a destination for visitors interested in culture. There are also stories to discover about the Stoanis' professional and private lives, as well as about the entire music scene. Anyone who does not want to fill their trip exclusively with outdoor activities can make this a cultural focal point.
The parish church in Gasen also tells the story of a long development. Its building history began with the construction of the first church around 1280. Around 1360, the church was extended; in 1688, it was given a Baroque makeover and expanded into its present form. These dates give the local history a clear chronological structure and complement today's experiences with a historical perspective on Gasen.
Alpacas, Herbs and Water in the Village Centre
At the Stelzer Alpaca Mountain Farm, visitors can tour the farm with its alpaca stable and enclosure, visit the farm shop and take a guided alpaca hike. Along the way, they learn more about raising alpacas and their daily lives, as well as their wool and the products made from it. This is a special programme highlight for anyone looking for an insight into agricultural work and animal husbandry.
The Pöllabauer family's herb garden (vlg. Hochegger) is located at an altitude of 1,100 metres in Gasen. Herbs, flowers, trees and shrubs grow there. A guided tour of the farm with a tasting adds a culinary element to the visit. Gasen outdoor swimming pool is located directly in the village centre and offers a heated open-air pool as well as a heated children's pool with a baby area. When planning your day, you can therefore choose between hiking trails, nature-related activities, regional insights and time in the water.
Other Places for Your Search
If you would like to compare other destinations in addition to Gasen, you can find more places here: Aschau, Auen, Ratten, Grosspesendorf, Sankt Ruprecht An Der Raab, Gemeinde Floing, Pircha and Rettenegg.
Gasen is therefore well suited to a trip that combines nature, culture and specific experiences. When searching for accommodation, you can decide whether to focus on the trails, the Stoani House of Music, the regional offerings or shared activities in the water.
