Discover Ligistberg: Celtic Trails, History and Schilcher
Accommodation in Ligistberg
Ligistberg appeals to travellers who want to combine nature, history and regional specialities. Between trails across the Ligistberg, insights into the Celtic past and the vineyards of Schilcher Vineyard Haas, you can enjoy varied days away. When looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home, it is therefore worth first choosing the experiences you want to shape your trip.
Hiking trails with different perspectives
The Ligist Panorama Trail leads from Ligist market square past the ruins to Wartenstein and then back to the market square. Along the way, the trail passes fields, forests and orchards. Those who want to explore the Ligistberg on foot can choose between two differently named options: the short Celtic Trail leads up the Ligistberg to Wartenstein, which is 805 m high. The long Celtic Trail offers views of the Ligistberg and Wartenstein and leads into the vineyard area.
Another trail option is the Ligist Birdsong Trail. In the castle forest, an information board provides details about the songbirds native to the area. This makes the trail an opportunity to experience the landscape not only through its views, but also through its wildlife. For planning your day, you can therefore choose between a panoramic trail, a Celtic trail and a themed trail.
Celtic history and Lubgast Ruins
The Ligist Celtic House illustrates the living conditions of the Celts who lived on the Dietenberg around 100 BC, before the Romans came to Noricum. A guided tour lasts around 45 minutes; admission is by voluntary donation. For visits to the Ligist Celtic House, prior arrangements are required from 2 May to 31 October. If you plan to include this attraction, you should therefore arrange the appointment before your trip.
The Ligist Museum is also dedicated to local history. It is housed in seven rooms of a 250-year-old former blacksmith's workshop. Lubgast Ruins, also known as Ligist Ruins, were built around 1200. A virtual tour is available. Access to the upper part of the residential tower is somewhat difficult; the virtual tour therefore offers an additional way to explore the ruins.
Schilcher, vineyards and regional cuisine
Ligist Schilcher thrives on the southern slopes of the Ligistberg. In the vineyards of Schilcher Vineyard Haas, the Blauer Wildbacher grape ripens and is subsequently made into Schilcher. Schilcher is sold directly from the farm there. Those interested in how regional products are made can also arrange an expert guided tour of the production facilities at Rosenzopf Beekeeping by registering in advance. During the tour, you will gain insights into honey production and can then taste the farm's own products.
For a traditional break, Buschenschank Zach, with its homemade snacks, juices and wine, and Buschenschank Dokter, with homemade specialities from its own production, offer specific places to stop. This allows you to round off a day of hiking with wine, honey and hearty specialities.
The right accommodation for planning your trip
Which holiday apartment or holiday home is right for you depends mainly on your planned daily activities. For a trip focused on hiking, the Panorama Trail, the Celtic Trails and the Birdsong Trail are the highlights. Culture enthusiasts can include the Celtic House, the Ligist Museum and Lubgast Ruins, while Schilcher and the Buschenschänken provide a culinary focus. The Ligist Tour can begin in the centre of Ligist or at Krottendorf-Ligist S-Bahn station. The station is on the S7 line between Graz and Köflach.
If you would like to compare other places in addition to Ligistberg, you can find Kniezenberg, Bärnbach, Hirschegg-Piber-Sonnseite, Maria Lankowitz, Krottendorf Bei Ligist, Graden bei Köflach, Dietenberg and Söding here.
