Discover Gößl: Lakes, Trails and Nature Experiences
Accommodation in Gößl
Gößl offers you various ways to incorporate lakeside landscapes and trails into your holiday. From the car parks in the village, two hiking trails, each around 1,600 metres long, lead to Lake Toplitz. This means your exploration begins not only at the lake, but already on the way there. Depending on your preferred route, you can choose the shortest village trail or the Reithweg trail, allowing you to plan your outing in different ways.
To Lake Toplitz via Two Trails
The village trail leads from the landing stage through Gößl and along the forest road to Lake Toplitz. It is the shortest connection. The Reithweg, on the other hand, follows a typical forest path with a gentle incline. Information boards provide details about the local flora and fauna. For planning your day, this means you can choose between a shorter route and a forest trail with information about nature, without losing sight of your destination, Lake Toplitz.
Another way to get to know the lakes in the surrounding area is the Three Lakes Tour. It allows you to explore Lake Grundlsee, Lake Toplitz and Lake Kammer by boat. This offers a different way to spend a day on holiday than hiking. If you enjoy combining different perspectives on the landscape, this tour is one of the obvious excursion options around Gößl.
Nature, Landscape and History
The Geo Trail between Lake Grundlsee and Lake Toplitz is an approximately two-and-a-half-hour alpine hiking trail without any significant inclines. At 34 marked stations, you can learn more about the formation of the landscape, the geological formation of the Totes Gebirge mountains and the Ice Ages. Special geological features such as the glacier mill, vanished mountain streams and the karst springs of the Stimitz are also explained. You use the trail at your own risk. Those who enjoy discovering connections between the landscape and the history of the Earth will find a distinct focus here alongside the trails to the lake.
The Ranftlmühle mill is part of the area’s cultural and local history. It is a historic water mill powered by the water of the Stimitz. Together with the information boards along the Reithweg, it creates a range of experiences in which not only the natural scenery but also the history and special features of the surrounding area play a role.
Water, Hiking and Winter Days
The Gößl Leisure Centre is located directly on the eastern shore of Lake Grundlsee. This fixed landmark complements the trails to Lake Toplitz and the boat trip of the Three Lakes Tour with another area by the water. In addition, the hike to the Zimitz Waterfall and Zimitzalm starts at the Ladner Inn in Gößl. It is five kilometres long and takes an average of two and a half hours. Your planning can therefore include both shorter trails to Lake Toplitz and a longer hike with a fixed starting point.
The surrounding area also remains a destination for active days out during winter. The Gössler Wiese–Toplitzsee cross-country ski trail is nine kilometres long and, when snow conditions are suitable, is groomed for both classic cross-country skiing and skating. As grooming depends on the snow conditions, you should take this into account when planning your seasonal activities.
Gößl as a Starting Point for Finding Your Accommodation
When looking for a holiday apartment or holiday home in Gößl, you can first consider which experiences should shape your stay: trails to Lake Toplitz, a boat trip on the Three Lakes Tour, the Geo Trail, the hike to Zimitzalm or cross-country skiing when snow conditions are suitable. This allows you to choose your accommodation based on the holiday activities you want, rather than solely on the name of the village. If you are travelling by public transport, RegioBus route 956 runs from Bad Aussee railway station directly to Grundlsee or Gößl. There are several connections every day, all year round.
